18 Jun What does an NDIS plan manager do?
So, what does an NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) plan manager do?
Well, to put it simply, an NDIS plan manager pays for your approved consumable and supports delivered by service providers, they manage all the paperwork associated with your NDIS plan and services so you don’t have to.
Plan management is one of 4 management styles available to any NDIS participant. NDIS participants may choose to have their NDIS plan funding managed in one of the following ways:
Agency Managed (or NDIA managed)
This is where the NDIA holds your funds and pays your NDIS registered providers for approved supports and consumables.
Where a participant is self managed, they will pay for approved supports and consumables and be reimbursed by the NDIA. This option provides the participant with a bit more choice and control than those who are agency managed, but does come at a cost of time, and added responsibility.
Plan Management combines the best characteristics of the above. It gives the participant the most choice and control, whilst allowing someone else (your NDIS plan manager) to do all the hard work.
Participants may also choose to have their funding managed with a combination of the above.
What is an NDIS plan manager?
A plan manager is a financial intermediary, there to support you in managing your NDIS plan funding.
What does an NDIS plan manager do?
Any good NDIS plan managers will:
- offer assistance and guidance with your NDIS funds
- provide monthly and real time reporting (if you choose) on your funding budgets
- monitor your budget
- process your invoices
- pay providers for supports delivered
- pay reimbursements
- offer advice on what you can and can’t use your plan funds for
- ensure your service providers are invoicing in line with NDIS guidelines.
Basically, being plan managed takes away the admin and paperwork associated with your plan, giving you more time to focus on what really matters – reaching your goals! Read our guide to understanding NDIS funding categories.
NDIS plan management gives you the support you need to get the most out of your funding, whilst still giving you maximum control over HOW you use your funding.
What are the benefits of NDIS plan management?
- NDIS plan management gives you, the participant, maximum Choice – unlike Agency managed NDIS participants, when you are plan managed you are able to choose from both NDIS registered service providers and non-registered providers
- NDIS plan management allows you to negotiate lower costs for services to make your NDIS funds go further
- It is stress free – you won’t be audited – paying of invoices, any record-keeping and admin associated with your plan is the responsibility of your NDIS plan manager
- Plan Management offers transparency – You will receive regular reports and updates
